Are updates/new versions of Dataverse first tested in a test or acceptance environment?

Dataverse is open source software and is used by more than 120 agencies. New versions of the software are extensively tested by this Dataverse community.
DANS uses an DTAP street for the installation of DataverseNL and the Data Stations. Before a release, the new version is tested on the Acceptance Server by the Functional Administrators. For dataverseNL, the local administrators of each partner institute have the possibility as well to test on the acceptance server before deployment on production.
