Can I deposit large datasets at DANS?

Modified on Tue, 21 Oct at 3:28 PM

Our Data Stations support the upload of files up to 9.3GB per file. In case you would like to upload larger files, please contact us. The Data Stations are free of charge up to 50GB per account. In case you would like to upload larger volumes of data, please contact us.

If you have a lot of files that you want to upload, you can combine them into a ZIP file. ZIP files are automatically extracted during the upload. The maximum number of files that can be uploaded and extracted in a single ZIP file is 2000. Other forms of file compression, such as .rar or .7z, are not supported by DANS.

A ZIP file within another ZIP file will not be extracted. If an unextracted ZIP file is added to a dataset in this way, the file will be indexed and the contents of this ZIP file can be viewed in a previewer. This previewer also allows you to download individual files from the ZIP file. See, for example, the file Dutch parliamentary proceedings 1930-2012 semanticized.zip in the dataset "Dutch Parliamentary Proceedings 1930-2012, semanticized"; use the “View ZIP” button (the eye icon to the right of the file) to view the contents of the ZIP file. This option may be attractive for making large datasets available.

In case your dataset consists of many files, we advise to add documentation with a list of all the files, their names and potential relations.
